PhD Heidelberg

Dr Verena Wimmer is an expert microscopist and neurobiologist, and was trained at one of the world's leading centres for microscopy.

Throughout her career imaging has been central to her research, with publications focusing on confocal and multiphoton microscopy, methods development and quantitative imaging approaches.

She joined the Institute’s Centre for Dynamic Imaging in 2017, specialising in confocal, multiphoton and light-sheet microscopy.

During her PhD and first postdoctoral placement Dr Wimmer worked with Professor Thomas Kuner and Nobel Laureate Professor Bert Sakmann at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg, Germany. She later moved to Melbourne to work with Professor Steven Petrou at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health. Dr Wimmer managed the Florey’s Microscopy Facility from 2014 to 2017.
