BA BSc(Hons) PhD Melbourne

Dr Lachlan Whitehead joined the Centre for Dynamic Imaging in 2012 to provide hardware and software support to researchers using the facility’s equipment. Since then he has developed the Centre’s image processing and analysis capabilities.

Dr Whitehead collaborates closely with researchers across the Institute, as well as external users, to produce accurate and reliable quantification of a large range of bioimage data.

He has co-published papers in several high-impact journals on topics including cancer, cell death, development, infectious diseases and x-ray diffraction. He has presented workshops on various image analysis and 3D software packages including FIJI, Imaris, MetaMorph, and Autodesk Fusion 360. Dr Whitehead has been invited to speak at several events on the current state of the art of microscopy (2016 Emerging Therapeutics Symposium) and data processing on the AWS cloud (2016 AWS Summit).

Dr Whitehead completed his PhD in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coherent X-Ray Science (CXS) at the University of Melbourne in 2011. His PhD was in computational methods of reconstructing images from intensity patterns caused by diffracted x-rays illuminating a sample.
